Cain Park offers a lineup of great music for its 2013 year. An eclectic mix of Jazz, Blues, Country, Punk, Rock and Classical music is featured in this years lineup. You can enjoy this music for FREE or enjoy it under Cain Park’s $2 Tuesday or $5 Friday concert days.
It is great to see the artistic vision of Cleveland created by those in the past, still alive and thriving today.

History
CAIN PARK THEATER was the first municipally owned and operated outdoor theater in the U.S. Its genesis occurred in 1934, when Dr.DINA REES EVANS (1891-1989), a dramatics instructor at Cleveland Hts. High School, began putting on student productions in a natural amphitheater in Cain Park, a wide ravine extending from Taylor Rd. along Superior Rd. to Lee Rd. in CLEVELAND HEIGHTS A permanent 3,000-seat open-air auditorium and 80′ stagehouse were built by Italian stonemasons working under the WPA and dedicated on 10 Aug. 1938. A smaller 300-seat theater added in 1944 was named the Alma after the wife of Cleveland Hts. mayor FRANK C. CAIN, who was the namesake of the park. Under Evans direction, a theatrical company was formed to produce operettas and musicals, such as Kurt Weill’s Knickerbocker Holiday. Among the theater’s dramatic alumni are Hal Holbrook, Ross Hunter, and Dom DeLuise. A decline set in after Evans retired in 1958, which was reversed after the filming of the United Artists film Those Lips, Those Eyes on location there in 1979 which resulted in the restoration of lighting and sound systems. The revival was capped by the installation of a permanent canopy designed by van Dijk, Johnson & Partners over the outdoor amphitheater in 1989.
Cain Park is one of those visions from the past that is still benefiting us today. It offers some amazing music concerts, dance, theater, the Audry and Harvey Feinberg Art Gallery and other events including the Cain Park Festival. (Remember, don’t sleep on those festivals!)

Inlet Dance Theatre’s aesthetic has been described as “narrative-driven choreography…filled with striking and compassionate imagery.” The Kids Matinee and evening performances also include students from their Summer Dance Intensive 2013.

THE SINGING ANGELS

For more than 40 years, Cleveland’s Youth Ambassadors have toured the world, visiting more than 30 countries. Command performances have included five trips to the White House, the Great Hall of the People of China, and three performances at the Vatican. Over 300 children, ages 6 to 18, participate in this educationally and culturally enriching program each year.

The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra sounds like Bela Fleck meets Rush, goes out to breakfast with John Coltrane, and gets home in time to go golfing with Jeff Beck. Expecting Rain formed in 2002 as a vehicle for singer-guitarist Nick Tolar and lyricist Tony Vorell. They took their pessimistic name from a Bob Dylan song and started recording at home, culminating in a self titled EP on Cleveland independent Van Gogh Round in 2004, which met with critical acclaim.
