Cleveland ClinicSo…remember how I blogged about the FREE summer camps hosted by  SEMAA/NASA at TRI-C  (Cuyahoga Community College)?  SEMAA is NASA’s Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy.

Well,  I just received an awesome email from the Director, Lori Scott.  This summer Cleveland Clinic is offering PAID summer internships for students in grades 8th-11th who are passionate about science, math, the arts or innovation.  Or  are they interested in a career in the healthcare?

The student will not only gain invaluable experience in the health field but they could also earn college credits.

365 DiFlora Moscato

I love Moscato, I will definitely have to find and try this one.

And speaking of exploration and experimentation ….  This is the last of my tastings from the inexpensive Moscatos available in my area.  There are more, of course.  Many more, in fact.  But I had to cut myself off somewhere or I’d have permanent high blood sugar.  I saw some pink Moscatos and some sparkling Moscatos on the shelves that looked very interesting.  After awhile, perhaps I’ll pull a few of those for sampling.  For now, though, I’ll call this Moscato “tour” at an end with this interesting non-vintage offering imported from Italy by Whole Foods.

Winemaker:  Elledi (Cantina Levorato S.R.L.) for Whole Foods
Wine:  365 DiFlora Moscato
Varietal:  Moscato
Vintage:  NV
Appellation:  Puglia IGT, Italy
Price:  $8.99 at Whole Foods

Notes:  In the glass, the color of this somewhat drier Moscato (11% alcohol) was a light yellow.  The bouquet on this Italian was surprisingly faint with only light suggestions of…

Just Putting It Out There….Small Business Satuday

Do you have that one place where you go, when your feeling depressed or overwhelmed with life, and it instantly gives you a pick me up?  For me, it is a quaint little coffee/tea shop that serves amazing feel good foods and specialty coffees and teas, that make Starbucks taste like Sanka!  It is called Brielle’s, 6523 Brecksville Rd, Independence, Oh 44131.

The tables are draped with vintage lace table clothes and some of the seating are benches recycled from an old church!  You are not only able to enjoy a delicious meal but you can also purchase stationary.  How about a one of a kind gift for a dear friend?

Which brings me to the entire reason for today’s post.  This weekend is the biggest holiday shopping weekend.  People are out and about in a frenzy trying to find the perfect gift at a deeply discounted price.

Black Friday and, increasingly, Thanksgiving night are for big-box retailers with thousands of stores, but this Saturday is …..  SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY!!!!!

Small Business Saturday, a day set aside since 2010 between Black Friday and Cyber Monday to encourage shoppers to spend their holiday money at local mom-and-pop stores on clothing, jewelry, toys, accessories and other merchandise.

So while I know waking up at 11pm to stand in-line outside of Wal-Mart until 3am is appealing to some.  Don’t forgot about our  small businesses which are very much apart of our communities and provide a great alternative to our big box stores.

Just Putting It Out There….Free Day @ the Zoo!

Spending every Thanksgiving Day at the Zoo has become sort of, a tradition for my girls and I. We spend our day together as a little family, enjoying God’s creations.  We have braved the coldest days to spend a day with our furry, feathered, web-footed friends.

We have come to look forward to our visit with the animals at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, not only because it’s FREE!!!!, but because the animals are much more active in the colder weather than in the summer heat.

Come and meet the new additions to the zoo….the baby otters:

Just Putting It Out There – “America Recycles Day” @ Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

The Metroparks have shown us why they are of great value to the communities that they are apart of.  Today from  10am – 4pm, they are hosting “America Recycles Day“!

The new baby porcupine @ Cleveland Metroparks Zoo….oh, just look at that face 🙂

You see, our Metroparks are going green!  Today,  if visitors bring in a recyclable item they will give one free admission for each paid admission.

‘So that means….. adult admission (age 12+) is $9 and junior admission (age 2-11) is $6…..so for a family of four your cost could be cut in half…instead of paying $30 you pay $15……yeah!

The Zoo will be accepting the following items for recycling on November 9:

  • CELL PHONES AND ACCESSORIES – Rechargeable Batteries only
There will be activities and games, fun for the entire family.  And don’t forget to visit the new editions to our zoo family, like the new baby porcupine in the RainForest.
If you have any pictures or experiences with your zoo adventures, please share in the comments section and feel free to take this poll on your favorite animals….
