Just Putting It Out There…..Free summer camp for kids!

Cuyahoga County - Public Library

It’s that time of year again!  And we parents, are asking ourselves…”What to do with our children for the summer?”

We want them enjoy fun and memorable activities.   We want those activities to be educational but also engage them.   And if possible, we would like those activities to be FREE!

So I have begun the hunt!  One of the first places I go to is my county library! They offer a host of services and activities throughout the year for children, but especially in the summer, when children become their main client…LOL!

At my county library, here in Cuyahoga County… you have to register for these summer camps and space is very limited.  The registration period begins on May 14, 2014 @ 9am!!!   I post this information because if you start looking to register your child(ren) for camps @ 10am…you are likely to be shut out of many.  So do your research now…many camps have age restrictions.  There are several camps which are repeated at different branch locations and at different dates!!!!

IMAG00173   So far, I have found 17 different camps that my girls would love!!  Now there are many different camps out there that are just as engaging, but with many of them running at $200+ per child…..these ones that are offered are just as engaging and promote educational growth……and they are FREE!!!!!

I know many of my followers do not live within the wonderful confines of Cuyahoga County…here in Ohio.  I did manage to search out a few county libraries in Salt Lake City, Utah and in San Diego, CA and where I did not find free summer camps I did find some interesting FREE programs that you might want to take advantage of. I am going to post about those tomorrow, stay tuned!

So,  HAPPY FRREEEE HUNTING!

Just Putting It Out There…..Free summer camp for kids!

My daughters attended the SEMAA,  (Science, Engineering, Mathematics Aerospace Academy) summer camp this past week and loved it. This camp is  sponsored by NASA.  The kids are able to performed science experiments, study our solar system and even ecosystems all on a college campus.  I just received an email from the Director, Lori Scott about another FREE two week summer camp! So I wanted to put it out there for you fellow parents to take advantage of.

It is only for children entering grades 4-9 in the upcoming 2013-2014 school year.  It is call the Summer of  Innovation.

Summer of Innovation focuses on middle school scholars (children entering grades 4 – 9 in fall 2013) with a vision of advancing excellence in summer and extended learning for underrepresented and underserved students to inspire them toward future STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) pursuits. The program is open enrollment and applications are accepted on a first come first served basis. The application deadline has been extended to Thursday July 18th, 2013.

Last year, Cleveland SEMAA sponsored Summer of Innovation (SOL), an epic summer experience for rising 4th through 9th grade scholars at Tri-C’s Metro Campus!  We’re delighted to share the program will be hosted again this year, Monday, August 5th – Friday, August 16th, 2013!  The session will offer scholars a chance to participate in 30 hours or NASA developed content for ½ day, either, 9:00AM – noon, or, 1:00PM – 4:00PM over two weeks!  Check out the program on the NASA homepage at:http://www.nasa.gov/offices/education/programs/national/summer/home/index.html

So below here is some information about the program and I tried adding the applications so you could access them directly from this site, but I was unsuccessful.   If you are interested in having your child participate in this FREE summer camp, contact Lori Scott at:

It’s Almost Summer, what to do with those kids?

I am updating this post for two reasons, the link for the Cuyahoga County library is incorrect (sorry moms) and I have information on another FREEEEEE summer camp!

Every summer NASA Glenn Research Center teams up with Cuyahoga Community College and hosts the SEMAA – Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Aerospace Academy camp.  It is FREEEEEE! However, it is on a first come, first serve basis.  So I have added a link for the application on this blog.  Please follow the directions carefully, because one piece of incorrect or blank information can land your child’s application at the bottom of the pile!

Summer Application

Are you looking for summer camps for your children to attend? Would you like for them to attend “free” summer camps.  That’s right, I said FREE!  The Cuyahoga County library has free summer camps.  Just click on the link for more information about the times, dates and locations of these free camps.  Now at this time you can only preview, however on May 15, 2013, you have act fast to register your children for these slots because they fill up fast.

Tisha this is for you….lol.  Now when you go to the main page of the libraries website, at the top of the page their are several pages which help you navigate their site.  Select “events”.

Now you can type in the keyword section “summer camps” or they have links scrolling on the left side of the page and if you wait you will see a link for “summer camps”.  Just select this link and you are good to go.
