Rock and Roll Hall of Fame “Rock Week” @ Carlyz Corner

2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame events in Cleveland and Cleveland Rock Week events

Hello friends, followers, fellow bloggers….long time, no hear! I know right!  Sorry for the hiatus, but I have worked on some new adventures.  But I couldn’t let this great free event pass us by!

So when Clevelanders first received the notification that we had won the privilege to have the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME in our city we were filled with excitement, because let’s face it, this city was built on rock and roll (cheesy huh?).  Our city would be on the map, known for something other than being “the mistake on the lake”.  However when it was announced that the annual induction ceremonies, with all the glitz and glamour, would not be held in Cleveland but in New York, and every three years in Cleveland, I felt slighted!

I have to admit though that the having the museum in our city does come with some amazing perks.  The addition of this beautiful masterpiece of architectural design to our lakefront makes Voinivich Park a draw to visitors and locals alike. The museum is always abuzz with activity!  So one those activities is……… “CLEVELAND ROCK WEEK“!

What is “Cleveland Rock Week” you ask? This year is our year to host the induction ceremony! We get the red carpet, celebrity guests and  “E” reviews!  So in honor the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction, the museum and city have come together to host a week-long celebration of music and other free activities for Cleveland fans.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 30th Annual Induction Ceremony will take place at Cleveland’s historic Public Hall on Saturday, April 18, 2015 and be celebrated with a series of events for fans as part of Cleveland Rock Week.

WHO are the 2015 Rock Hall Performers and Presenters?

Scheduled performers include Beck, Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh, Tom Morello, John Legend, Jimmie Vaughan, Gary Clark Jr., Zac Brown, Karen O, Nate Ruess and more!

NEW 2015 Hall of Fame Inductee exhibit: Stories, rare performances and interviews, and incredible items from the 2015 class of Inductees, opens April 11. FREE EVENT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Gallery Talks: The Rock Hall’s Gallery Talks give visitors an insider’s look into the stories and characters behind the treasures in the Museum. These guided tours of the Museum are your backstage pass to the Museum experience.

Free Music Concerts in July @ Carly’z Corner

I have previously blogged about our amazing Cleveland Metroparks! They are truly a vital and vibrant part of Cleveland and her  surrounding  communities.

They offer a little something for everyone…..whether you want to hike, golf, bike, interact with wildlife, dance or just take in an evening of music.  The Metroparks….has it all!

During the summer, they offer a Summer Concert Series at various parks.  I just wanted to tell you of these….as they are usually right within your community and a great way to get out and meet some of our neighbors and local musical talent.

This weekend…..Look About Lodge located at 37374 Miles Rd in Bentleyville on July 13 between 6p-8p will feature Ferguson 35   (formerly the Clear Fork Bluegrass Quartet).

This is a free event! But a $1 per person donation is  greatly appreciated.

Get out and enjoy!

Free Music Concerts for the Month of June @ Carly’z Corner

Did you know that your local county library gives many free music concerts! I have a friend who loves the sound that the ukulele makes and she has learned to play this instrument quite beautifully.

“The ukulele  sometimes abbreviated to uke, is a member of the guitar family of instruments; it generally employs four  nylon or gut strings or four courses of strings.

Ukulele1 HiRes.jpg

The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian interpretation of the machete, a small guitar-like instrument related to the cavaquino, timple, braguinha and the rajao taken to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants, many from the Macaronesian Islands.  It gained great popularity elsewhere in the United States during the early 20th century, and from there spread internationally.” – Wikipedia

That brings me to this information that I found just browsing the information board at the library while waiting for my kids to finish with their free library camp @ the Independence Cuyahoga library branch:

Free Bowling all Summer for Kids…@ Carly’z Corner

KidsBowlFree2

I learned about this program last year.  It seemed a little confusing, but it really is a simple program to take advantage of….and it’s free!

Photo The kids bowling free today 6/25/14

Just go to www.KidsBowlFree.com and  register yourself and your children.  There will be coupons available for each child that you register, for each week.

KidsBowlFree1

The program runs from May 19, 2014 until September 1, 2014.  The kids can bowl 2 free games each day.  The only cost that you pay is for shoe rental.  At our bowling alley, Cloverleaf…the shoe rental is $3 per child!

There are some awesome deals for shoe rental for the entire season for the kids and there are packages that can be purchased if parents or other adults want to bowl with the kids.

So go and support your local bowling alley…it is great exercise and the kids really enjoyed it!

Just Putting It out There…..Free Music @ Porchfest 2014!

This is an awesome community gathering  and display of some of the local musical talent that Cleveland and Northeast Ohio has to offer. And it is FREE to the public!

There will be 30 bands playing on 30 porches in the historic community of Larchmere in Cleveland.  The music styles of the bands have such a variety from Reggae, to classical and from Celtic and folk to Rock.

Porchfest will be held this Saturday June 21 2014 from 1pm-10pm. Please check out their website www.larchmereporchfest.org for more information.  They have done something really amazing with their site…each artist has a sampling of their music linked so you can decide on which bands you would like take in and enjoy!

Cleveland is not the only place that has Porchfest!  I Googled “Porchfest” and  found Somerville Massachusetts, Kansas City Missouri, Ithaca New York,Stuart Virginia, Cranbury New Jersey, Westhaven Connecticut, and Tucson Arizona all host a Porchfest in their communities.

So get out and enjoy!
