Travel Week – Day 3 @ Carly’z Corner

I know that planning a vacation can be taxing, but it doesn’t have to be.  You just need to give yourself time to do the legwork and find the resources that will give you the best deal for your $$$.

I am going to list a couple of reputable websites today for you to go to that will provide you with some great deals that can open to you a multitude of vacation options.

Website 1:    TravelZoo…..(although I have yet to use this one, yet!) It boasts of some great $$$ saving deals.  They offer not just local deals but you can find deals all over the world!

From the Travelzoo Newsdesk

Website 2…….”Groupon“.

It stands for group coupons and I completely love this site.  Groupon posts deals for different businesses, anywhere from service oriented companies – such as hair salons, chem-lawn services to any product you think that you might want to buy, all at an extremely cheap discount.  The business offering the service or product sets a limit on how many coupons, at minimum, that it wants to sell before it will honor the deal!  This site has been hugely successful! I have purchased an accounting course, tickets to concerts and a sewing class for myself and my daughter (I have had no issues with my information being shared or stolen from this site)!

Today we are going to explore some of the amazing travel deals offered on Groupon.  Groupon offers local travel/vacation getaways as well as international. For example:

Mediterranean-Style Resort with Free Shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip

In the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Las Vegas, colorful stucco villas and palm trees line cobblestone streets with names such as Rue Du Rivoli and Strada Di Villaggio. The entire area feels like a Mediterranean village—complete with pedestrian-only piazzas that lead to cafés, international restaurants, and boutiques with hand-blown glassware—even though it’s actually located about a half hour from Las Vegas, in southern Nevada. Just like in Venice, you can ride in a gondola on the manmade Lake Las Vegas. Aston MonteLago Village Resort sits in the midst of this Mediterranean charm, where it overlooks the lake’s sparkling waters and the craggy desert hills beyond.

Steps away from the resort, Casino MonteLago is located in the western part of Lake Las Vegas. The casino has a number of slot machines, electronic table games, and genie lamps that take quarters; you can try your luck here with the casino credit included in this Getaway. To head to the big city, hop on the resort’s free shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip.

In the evening, retire to your Luna di Lusso resort-view studio or one-bedroom suite. Each has a private, furnished balcony that looks out over the resort as well as a small kitchen or kitchenette.

Henderson, Nevada: Thriving Suburb Close to the Vegas Strip

A Las Vegas suburb, Henderson is conveniently close to the Strip but also far enough away to be an escape from the bustle. named it a top family vacation destination, highlighting the city’s culture scene, which includes area art galleries and outdoor symphony concerts. At the Clark County Museum, visitors can trace southern Nevada’s history via a timeline exhibit. The museum campus also has several historic buildings—including a decades-old barn and a wedding chapel—as well as a walk-in mining trail.

You’ll find the Hoover Dam, one of America’s Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders, about 20 miles northwest of town. Take the guided tour if you want to learn more about the dam’s history and get a look at the inner passageways. Nearby Lake Mead hosts all sorts of watersports, including kayaking and fishing, but the bulk of the lake’s recreation area consists of mountains and valley with trails for hiking.

Henderson’s shopping scene is another draw: the town features one of the most popular malls off the Strip, Galleria at Sunset. The two-level shopping center houses more than 140 shops and five department stores. But Galleria really stands out because of its Southwestern-themed decor, including fountains, palm trees, and a topiary of animals in the food court. Alternatively,The District at Green Valley Ranch offers an outdoor shopping experience with a pedestrian-friendly promenade that’s lined with boutiques and restaurants. There are also ample opportunities to relax here with a lushly landscaped central park and a grassy courtyard where musicians play live on Friday and Saturday nights from May through October.

Cudell Improvement, Inc. founded the Clifton Arts & Musicfest and proudly presents it annually on Clifton Boulevard in the lakefront Cudell/Edgewater neighborhood on the northwest side of Cleveland.

The Clifton Arts and Musicfest was established as a unique celebration combining fine arts and live musical performances – a true street festival located in a very attractive and vibrant urban neighborhood setting.

There are many booths to explore from local area vendors.  Who sell everything from glass encased jellyfish to handmade soaps to noise making frogs.  You can create an original painting and hang it along the art wall for all to see.  There are many local restaurants who are showcasing their menu items for you to buy.  There may be sand sculptors and lots of music.

Just Putting it out there…..Celebrate the Opening for the New Cleveland Convention Center

After more than two years of construction, the Cleveland Convention Center(CCC) opens to the public on Saturday.

The estimated $465 million project was completed under budget and involved a complete makeover of Malls B and C and thousands of square feet under Lakeside.

In addition to the exhibition hall, the grand ballroom can seat about 1,800 people for dinner and also offers a floor-to-ceiling view of Lake Erie and First Energy Stadium.  It will now compete with Columbus, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and even Charlotte for new business.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for Friday, June 14, 2013, with Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Senator Sherrod Brown and other dignitaries.

The public is invited to a “Celebrate the Center” open house on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m for FREE.  It will feature many family oriented events, food and Cleveland sports-related activities.

I heard on FOX 8 that all the Cleveland Sports Teams will be participating in this event.  Some players will be present to sign autographs.

So if you want to see this beautiful new venue for FREE, go and check it out!

Happy Frrrreeeee  Hunting!

Travel Week – Day 2 @ Carly’z Corner

Do you receive those little advertisement books with your junk mail? Like the “Gold Clipper” or “MaxValues“.  Do not be so quick to discard them because they actually can give you some great low-cost vacation deals.

Remember how I blogged about traveling during the week or at least include a weekday in your vacation because you can receive a better deal?….and how if you  go directly to the website of the attraction or place that you want to vacation you can find great deals? (You didn’t read that one, shame on you…LOL).

Pictures are compliments of Pioneer Waterland’s website

Well that remains true. For example, in the MaxValues magazine, Issue 2 on page 15, there rests a great deal for Pioneer Waterland & Dry Fun Park located in Chardon, Ohio.  Sure you can clip the coupon posted on the page and pay $17.95 per person but why do that when you can go directly to Pioneer Waterland’s website and pay for internet tickets for $9.95 per person!!!  Regular admission into this amusement/water park is normally $19.95 per person, look how much you can save….no FREE but still nice on the wallet…yes!

Discount Tickets must be purchased at least one day prior to your visit and are not available for same day pickup.

Discount Tickets must be purchased at least one day prior to your visit and are not available for same day pickup.

1/2 Price MONDAY ONLY Tickets can only be purchased Tuesday through Saturday and are not available for purchase at the park.

The other magazine, “The Gold Clipper” also posts some great deals on their website:    This 4 Day/3 Night Trip for Two in Gatlinburg TN costs $99.

This deal requires you to spend 90 minutes of your time previewing Smokey Mountain Getaways resort to see if you potentially could become a purchaser.  If you don’t like what it has to offer, then don’t buy.  But what a great deal for an anniversary getaway,  or to just leave the city behind and enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful part of our country……. for $99!!!!!  You have to give a little to get a lot!

Travel Week – Take 2 @ Carly’z Corner

So I found this great article in the “Latinos Magazine”  in the May 2013 publication on page 16 under the Lifestyle section.  It talks in great detail about why vacations are a necessity to the health and well-being of not on families but for us as individuals as well.

The author starts the article by saying, “Sadly, more and more families are unable to take family vacations due to their busy schedules…Although, sometimes, we find it difficult, I strongly recommended that you set aside time, whether it be three days or three weeks, to schedule a summer vacation with your family.  We regularly find that when we do, we appreciate the untold number of benefits like enjoying each other’s company and having fun together.”

The author pointed out that a well planned trip is essential in order for everyone to have a fun vacation.  So start out as a family brainstorming ideas and planning activities.  Every family member has to be honest and also has to be open-minded to the opinions of the rest of the group.

Even if traveling includes the children, you want to have “kid friendly” activities planned.  However, keep a slot open to do something relaxing with the kids.  And don’t forget to plan something enjoyable for those big kids too (I am talking about us parents!)

A family vacation does not have to be far away from home.  Many families spend great summers never leaving their home state by taking advantages of mini-trips throughout their state!

The author concludes by stating, ” Taking a well-deserved summer vacation with our family (or friends) gives us the opportunity to forget about the pressures of work or running our household.  It’s absolutely vital for our personal well-being and that of our families that we take the time to relax and recharge in the way that a summer (or mini-vacations) allow us to do.”

So this week @ Carly’z Corner, we are going to focus on some ways to take a summer vacation or a mini-vacations at a very low cost.
