Just Putting It out There…..Free Music @ Porchfest 2014!

This is an awesome community gathering  and display of some of the local musical talent that Cleveland and Northeast Ohio has to offer. And it is FREE to the public!

There will be 30 bands playing on 30 porches in the historic community of Larchmere in Cleveland.  The music styles of the bands have such a variety from Reggae, to classical and from Celtic and folk to Rock.

Porchfest will be held this Saturday June 21 2014 from 1pm-10pm. Please check out their website www.larchmereporchfest.org for more information.  They have done something really amazing with their site…each artist has a sampling of their music linked so you can decide on which bands you would like take in and enjoy!

Cleveland is not the only place that has Porchfest!  I Googled “Porchfest” and  found Somerville Massachusetts, Kansas City Missouri, Ithaca New York,Stuart Virginia, Cranbury New Jersey, Westhaven Connecticut, and Tucson Arizona all host a Porchfest in their communities.

So get out and enjoy!

Happy Frrreeeee Hunting!

Just Putting It Out There…Frugalicious Frenzy

Okay friends and fellow bloggers….this is a yearly event that frugal people die for!  This coming weekend is the “NCJW/Cleveland’s 45th  Designer Dress Days Sale” which will begin on October 25, 2013.  It will be held at the The Mandel Jewish Community Center located at 26001 South Woodland Road Beachwood, OH 44122 !!!!!

For those frugal divas who love designer fashion but refuse to pay those ridiculous retail prices for it…can now get it at a fraction of a fraction of the cost!!!!  You can find designers from Burberry, St. john, Chanel, Carlisle, Escada, to Armani.  There are accessories, jewelry, furs and fur accessories (I don’t support the killing of animals to provide luxury coverings for our bodies…but honestly we have worn fur since Adam and Eve…I’m just sayin”!!)

You can find “new and gently worn upscale resale at phenomenal prices, a shopping experience different from all others“, states their ad in the MaxValues magazine.  In the current ad (which I received this week) there is a coupon!!!….$5 off a $50 purchase!!! (I provided a link to their website so you can get a coupon too 🙂

Now there is something a little different about this sale…the first day of the sale is October 25th….this is called the preview sale and costs $20 to attend! (which the coupon is not valid for).

However, the sale days, which run from October 27th-October 29th offers free admission.  But get this…..on October 28th,,,everything is 20% off….and even better, on October 29th..everything is 50% off!!

Now you can look at that two ways….is all the good stuff gone in the first day? or do you bear down and wait for the 50% off day and pick through what is leftover?  Choices, choices, choices!

The hours: October 25, 2013 from 10am-4pm, October 27, 2015 from 10am-5pm, and October 28 & 29, 2013 from 10am-8pm.

The proceeds from this sale support the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland Community Service Projects and Advocacy Initiatives. If you want more information go to their website, which I provided a link to above.

Happy  Frrrreeeee Hunting!

Frugalicious Week….Finale @ Carly’z Corner

Now that Frugalicious week is coming to its end :(…I thought that we would go over ESTATE SALE vs GARAGE SALE.

“An estate sale or estate liquidation is a sale or auction to dispose of a substantial portion of the materials owned by a person who is recently deceased or who must dispose of his or her personal property to facilitate a move.” – Wikipedia.

The survivors of the deceased person may have no interest in the bulk of the personal belongings left, or may simply lack space to keep the belongings. In situations where the survivors cannot agree to the disposition of tangible property, a court may order the goods to be sold in an estate sale with the proceeds to be divided among the survivors. Such a sale and division may also be mandated in the will of the deceased.

garage sale, also known as a yard salerummage saletag salelawn saleattic salemoving salegarbage salethrift sale or junk sale, is an informal, irregularly scheduled event for the sale of used goods by private individuals. Typically the goods in a garage sale are unwanted items from the household with the home owners conducting the sale. The goods are sometimes new, like-new, or just usable.

So your everyday garage sale is quite different from your estate sale.  With an estate sale, the person conducting the sale, usually toward the final days of the event, can be highly motivated to sale the items.  If you are patient, the final day of the estate sale may be 50% off of everything that is leftover!

Remember to use your thrifty etiquette…..everything is negotiable, carry small bills (preferably $1 bills or change) and you will find that you have saved hundreds of dollars!

So I really hope that this week really motivated you to go out and search out some of these great thrifty places and get some great deals.  Use the tips listed and you will not be intimated and just think…..you are going green and recycling!!! Remember, another man’s trash is another man’s treasure :)…!

Frugalicious Week…..Day 4 @ Carly’z Corner

Today on Carly’z Corner we are going to continue to explore where to find great deals at low-cost when shopping for clothes, shoes and accessories…etc.  We are going to explore consignment shops!

So that gorgeous dress that you had to have and were going to lose weight to fit into….yeah that one, that is hanging in the back of your closet with the tags still on it!  Or what about your favorite fluorescent leggings with the matching headband and earrings…..that you wore to the Def Leopard concert, that you just can’t bare to part with because of the memories that it brings back…..

Well there is a place for your wonderful treasures….which is not the bottom of the free Goodwill bin 🙂  You can sell your stuff to a consignment shop!

What exactly are consignment shops?  The word consignment comes from the French consigner, meaning “to hand over or transmit”.  Consignment is the act of consigning, which is placing any material in the hand of another, but retaining ownership until the goods are sold or person is transferred. This may be done for shipping, transfer of goods to auction, or for sale in a store (i.e., a consignment shop). – Wikipedia.

Consignment shopping is a great way to find designer clothing and accessories for dirt cheap but also a great way for you to unload your closets and make some cash! I had a friend who purchased her wedding dress  for $30 at a consignment shop and all of her bridemaids dresses too!  Now you will need to discuss the terms of contract with the owner.  Most consignment shops pay cash to you once the item has sold.  Many people keep a running tab and then shop in the consignment store for free!

Whatever works for you, you decide.  But I implore you not to sleep on these stores.  Consignment shops don’t all focus on just clothing and accessories, some cater to just designer clothing, some just to children…like Once Upon A Child, so explore.

I have listed below some of the consignment shops that I have shopped at and others have recommended…..enjoy!

Frugalicious Week …….Day 3 @ Carly’z Corner

Another frugal way to shop is, resale shops.  One of my favorite resale stores that I love to shop at, is the American Cancer Society Discovery Shops.                                                          DSC green sweater

“Shop at your nearest Discovery Shop. American Cancer Society Discovery Shops help support the fight against cancer through the sale of high quality, gently used, donated merchandise. For over 40 years, the Society has owned and operated these specialty resale stores, featuring items such as clothing, accessories, jewelry, furniture, artwork, antiques, collectibles, and other household items, ” (taken directly from their website).

I have found some unique one of a kind pieces here such as White House|Black Market, Talbot, Donna Karen..and not only for myself but for my girls….such brands as Justice, and the Gap at about a 90% discount from retail store prices!

The American Cancer Society Discovery Shops also have a frequent flyer card and for every card you fill up you receive $10 off your next purchase!

The Discovery shops are not only in Ohio but it appears that they have multiple locations, even in California.  So check out their website to see if you have one of these amazing resale shops in your area.

Frugalicious Week ……Day 2 @ Carly’z Corner

I know that second-hand or goodwill shopping is not for everyone.  I recently started back to school shopping for my girls as they begin school….next week on August 12th! …… Whew! The summer went by so fast.

Well, I went to one of my favorite second-hand stores – Value World.  To show you the value of shopping second hand…let me tell you the items that I was able to purchase for $24.81:  5 school shirts, two plaid jumpers, 1 plaid skirt, 3 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of basketball shorts, two headbands, a doll and an outfit for the doll along with shoes!

My bill totaled $46.06…but using the 50% off coupon (that came in the flyer in my junk mail) my total was reduced to $23.03 plus $1.78 in tax.

Tell me where can you find deals like that! The plaid uniform jumpers alone at School Belles uniform store, are $30 each!

So please, do not sleep on second-hand stores …like Value World or Goodwill Industries because you can find great values that don’t break the bank!

Now it seems that Value World has multiple locations in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.  I have listed the addresses for the locations in Northeastern Ohio. However, if you go to their website www.ValueWorld.net you can look-up  locations in your neighborhood and save, save, save!

10964 Lorain Ave., Cleveland OH -located in Westown Square

6858 Pearl Rd., Middleburgh Hts.  – across from Southland Shopping Center

4639 Northfield Rd., North Randall OH – just south of Burger King

Happy Frreeeee Hunting!

PSST!  Goodwill Industries have locations across the country.  Both second-hand stores offer frequent shopper cards where you spend so much money and you are given a stamp.  Once the card is filled up, you can receive a discount off of your purchase.  I have two cards filled up for Value World and am able to get 50% off of my shopping total.  Yeah!!!
