Free Music Concerts in July @ Carly’z Corner

I have previously blogged about our amazing Cleveland Metroparks! They are truly a vital and vibrant part of Cleveland and her  surrounding  communities.

They offer a little something for everyone…..whether you want to hike, golf, bike, interact with wildlife, dance or just take in an evening of music.  The Metroparks….has it all!

During the summer, they offer a Summer Concert Series at various parks.  I just wanted to tell you of these….as they are usually right within your community and a great way to get out and meet some of our neighbors and local musical talent.

This weekend…..Look About Lodge located at 37374 Miles Rd in Bentleyville on July 13 between 6p-8p will feature Ferguson 35   (formerly the Clear Fork Bluegrass Quartet).

This is a free event! But a $1 per person donation is  greatly appreciated.

Get out and enjoy!

Happy Frreeee Hunting!

FREE Weekend ………to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and Science Center @ Carly’z Corner

Photo: We’re celebrating our 100th birthday in 2014 by giving monthly gifts to the Greater #Cleveland community. Enjoy FREE admission to two great attractions: Great Lakes Science Center on Saturday, Feb. 22, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum on Sunday, Feb. 23. Details: http://ow.ly/tdS4t

The Cleveland Foundation is the world’s first community foundation. It is celebrating its 100th year in service to the Cleveland community.   It was created on January 2, 1914 by banker and lawyer Frederick H. Goff.  Who was a “mover and shaker” in Cleveland long before that phrase became part of the American lexicon.   His vision was to pool the charitable resources of Cleveland’s philanthropists, living and dead, into a single, great, and permanent endowment for the betterment of the city. Community leaders would then forever distribute the interest that the trust’s resources would accrue to fund “such charitable purposes as will best make for the mental, moral, and physical improvement of the inhabitants of Cleveland,” says the foundation’s website.

They are providing two ‘Cleveland Foundation Days’ in February because they want to showcase North Coast Harbor and make these Cleveland landmarks accessible to the entire community, reported Robert E. Eckardt, executive vice president of the Cleveland Foundation. The Cleveland Foundation is proud of the role the organization and the donors have played in developing North Coast Harbor into the destination it is today.  They hope Greater Clevelanders spend the weekend on the North Coast celebrating what their generosity has created for the world to enjoy. (extracted from the Cleveland Foundation website)

The Cleveland Foundation today announced the second in a series of monthly “Cleveland Foundation Day” centennial gifts to the community.  The foundation is creating a “North Coast Harbor Weekend” by inviting the community to visit Great Lakes Science Center on Saturday, Feb. 22 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum on Sunday, Feb. 23, for free.

This is the first time the Rock Hall will host a free weekend day and it is also the first time Great Lakes Science Center has opened its weekend doors for both free admission and OMNIMAX films in its 18-year history.

The Science Center will be open for free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 22. Free OMNIMAX films will be shown all day;  seating will be available for the first 1,800 people. The Rock Hall will have free admission from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.  Details on special family programming for the free weekend will be released on Feb. 17.

Visitors are encouraged to take the Greater Cleveland RTA, which has a stop at the Science Center and Rock Hall on its Waterfront line. Details on various parking options are available at www.greatscience.com and www.rockhall.com.

You know how we love free right! Well let me put it to you this way, for my family the cost for admission into the Science Center and Omnimax Theater would cost me $53 plus tax!  But on February 22, we can attend for FRREEEE!

So come out and enjoy! Two Great Cleveland Landmarks for frrrreeeee!!!

Happy Frreeee  Hunting!

Travel Week – Day 3 @ Carly’z Corner

I know that planning a vacation can be taxing, but it doesn’t have to be.  You just need to give yourself time to do the legwork and find the resources that will give you the best deal for your $$$.

I am going to list a couple of reputable websites today for you to go to that will provide you with some great deals that can open to you a multitude of vacation options.

Website 1:    TravelZoo…..(although I have yet to use this one, yet!) It boasts of some great $$$ saving deals.  They offer not just local deals but you can find deals all over the world!

From the Travelzoo Newsdesk

Website 2…….”Groupon“.

It stands for group coupons and I completely love this site.  Groupon posts deals for different businesses, anywhere from service oriented companies – such as hair salons, chem-lawn services to any product you think that you might want to buy, all at an extremely cheap discount.  The business offering the service or product sets a limit on how many coupons, at minimum, that it wants to sell before it will honor the deal!  This site has been hugely successful! I have purchased an accounting course, tickets to concerts and a sewing class for myself and my daughter (I have had no issues with my information being shared or stolen from this site)!

Today we are going to explore some of the amazing travel deals offered on Groupon.  Groupon offers local travel/vacation getaways as well as international. For example:

  • It is quiet, we had the pool every day to ourselves…some on site restaurants and shops. There is also a casino on site.

  • Oh what a wonderful place to visit! …The rooms are beautiful and the Aston is very close to village, no vehicles are needed, just a short walk to everything fun.

Mediterranean-Style Resort with Free Shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip

In the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Las Vegas, colorful stucco villas and palm trees line cobblestone streets with names such as Rue Du Rivoli and Strada Di Villaggio. The entire area feels like a Mediterranean village—complete with pedestrian-only piazzas that lead to cafés, international restaurants, and boutiques with hand-blown glassware—even though it’s actually located about a half hour from Las Vegas, in southern Nevada. Just like in Venice, you can ride in a gondola on the manmade Lake Las Vegas. Aston MonteLago Village Resort sits in the midst of this Mediterranean charm, where it overlooks the lake’s sparkling waters and the craggy desert hills beyond.

Steps away from the resort, Casino MonteLago is located in the western part of Lake Las Vegas. The casino has a number of slot machines, electronic table games, and genie lamps that take quarters; you can try your luck here with the casino credit included in this Getaway. To head to the big city, hop on the resort’s free shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip.

In the evening, retire to your Luna di Lusso resort-view studio or one-bedroom suite. Each has a private, furnished balcony that looks out over the resort as well as a small kitchen or kitchenette.

Henderson, Nevada: Thriving Suburb Close to the Vegas Strip

A Las Vegas suburb, Henderson is conveniently close to the Strip but also far enough away to be an escape from the bustle. Livability.com named it a top family vacation destination, highlighting the city’s culture scene, which includes area art galleries and outdoor symphony concerts. At the Clark County Museum, visitors can trace southern Nevada’s history via a timeline exhibit. The museum campus also has several historic buildings—including a decades-old barn and a wedding chapel—as well as a walk-in mining trail.

You’ll find the Hoover Dam, one of America’s Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders, about 20 miles northwest of town. Take the guided tour if you want to learn more about the dam’s history and get a look at the inner passageways. Nearby Lake Mead hosts all sorts of watersports, including kayaking and fishing, but the bulk of the lake’s recreation area consists of mountains and valley with trails for hiking.

Henderson’s shopping scene is another draw: the town features one of the most popular malls off the Strip, Galleria at Sunset. The two-level shopping center houses more than 140 shops and five department stores. But Galleria really stands out because of its Southwestern-themed decor, including fountains, palm trees, and a topiary of animals in the food court. Alternatively,The District at Green Valley Ranch offers an outdoor shopping experience with a pedestrian-friendly promenade that’s lined with boutiques and restaurants. There are also ample opportunities to relax here with a lushly landscaped central park and a grassy courtyard where musicians play live on Friday and Saturday nights from May through October.
