Just Putting It Out There – “America Recycles Day” @ Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

The Metroparks have shown us why they are of great value to the communities that they are apart of.  Today from  10am – 4pm, they are hosting “America Recycles Day“!

The new baby porcupine @ Cleveland Metroparks Zoo….oh, just look at that face 🙂

You see, our Metroparks are going green!  Today,  if visitors bring in a recyclable item they will give one free admission for each paid admission.

‘So that means….. adult admission (age 12+) is $9 and junior admission (age 2-11) is $6…..so for a family of four your cost could be cut in half…instead of paying $30 you pay $15……yeah!

The Zoo will be accepting the following items for recycling on November 9:

  • CELL PHONES AND ACCESSORIES – Rechargeable Batteries only
There will be activities and games, fun for the entire family.  And don’t forget to visit the new editions to our zoo family, like the new baby porcupine in the RainForest.
If you have any pictures or experiences with your zoo adventures, please share in the comments section and feel free to take this poll on your favorite animals….
Happy Frrreeeee  Hunting!

Cleveland Metroparks Week….Day 1 @ Carly’z Corner

This week on Carly’z Corner we are going to focus on the Cleveland Metroparks.  The Metroparks offer more than just scenic views and walking and bike paths…they offer many free or low cost events for you to engage in.

Cleveland Metroparks is an extensive system of nature preserves in Greater ClevelandOhio. The various reservations, which largely encircle the city of  Cleveland, tend to follow the rivers and creeks that flow through the region. Wikipedia.

History and Heritage

There are things to do all year round at the Metroparks.  For example, early this year, in January, I took my girls to the Brecksville Nature Center (off of Chippewa Creek Drive) and we were able to feed the chickadees by hand!  The event was free to all, and even the sunflower seeds were FREE!

The Metroparks offers events across many venues….theater, music, education on farming, swimming, they have day camps for the kids,…..how about a BugFest! They offer great golf courses and golf lessons for the amateur!

:)…..:)…….:)…..I wanted to make my viewers aware of a FREE concert at the Garfield Reservation which is located at 11350 Broadway Ave., Garfield Heights, OH 44125.

On, July 24th, the park will host a free concert from 6:30pm – 8pm.The Raybans are playing and they are a steel drums band.

The history of Garfield Park dates back almost a century. In 1894, the city of Cleveland purchased three farms, a half mile south of the city limits as a site for a new south side park. It was officially opened in 1895, as  Newburgh Park, and soon thereafter re-named Garfield Park.

Do you know what Garfield Park and Central Park in New York City have in common?  No, it is not horseback riding!

Well Enjoy! Stay Tuned, there are some great free things going-on in the Metroparks!

Happy Frrreeee Hunting!

Just Putting it out there……Free Things to do today with the kids…

Hey fellow bloggers and interested peeps…. I am sorry this week has been a little hectic, but I haven’t forgot about you guys.

So if your looking for some interesting things to do with the kids today….The Garfield Metroparks Reservation is hosting their annual FREE  Farm and Garden Day.

I took my girls last year, and it was pretty interesting.  I am interested in organic gardening and composting and they had some great displays and helpful people there to pose your questions to.  There were games and prizes and some free giveaways.

Sat 6/1 @ 11AM  –  4PM

Spend Sat 6/1 “down on the farm.” Celebrate Ohio’s rich farming heritage while enjoying old-fashioned family fun at the 2013 Farm & Garden Day @ Garfield Park Nature Center in the Garfield Park Reservation. Build a scarecrow, pet some animals and check out a farmers market.
