I recently had a situation occur with one of my financial institutions, Dollar Bank. I know that it is one of the smaller financial institutions, but I really expected better customer service then I received.
I went to make a cash deposit through the ATM of $150, but after waiting in line to use the ATM it was not taking deposits. That was on Friday, November 8th. So… I just decided that I would go to another branch closer to my house the following day. Of course, an unforeseeable situation occurred and I found myself without a car. So a dear friend took me on Sunday, November 10th and I made my deposit at the branch closer to me.
Now I had two automatic withdrawals that would post to my account on November 11th totaling $105. When I went to check my account on Monday online, it showed that my bank had only allowed $100 of my deposit to post, holding $50 of it. It then charged me a $36 NSF Fee because my automatic withdrawals totaled $105 and they only made $100 available.
I contacted the banking adviser online Monday, who the following day told me that I would have to contact the branch that I opened the account at. I made another cash deposit on November 13th this time inside of the branch. I decided to speak to someone face to face, although this was not the branch that I initially opened my account at. After some song and dance from that adviser and an excuse about the holiday (which few institutions even recognize) I called my home branch and spoke with the manager, who almost seemed to expect my call. He advised that he would look into the situation and give me a callback. I am still waiting!
I believe that I am a calm and rationale person and I am very aware of people who make a living out of trying to milk the system. This experience has me very disturbed and frustrated!
If you have had an experience like mine or are the recipient of poor customer service, please share. And if you know of a financial institution that prides itself on giving good customer service and wouldn’t mind a customer that has a small but loyal presence, please share!!!!
Happy Frrrreeeee Hunting!
